Beyond Meet Space members serve as guest editors for two special issues on metaverse-mediated communication and meaningful XR experiences, showcasing theoretically grounded, empirically rigorous scholarship from across the XR research community.
Metaverse-Mediated Communication: A Call for Theory-Driven XR Research
This special issue, made in collaboration with the Meaningful XR 2024 conference, offers theory-driven examinations of how we interact in and with metaverse and immersive environments. The scholars in this issue represent novel approaches to theorizing and examining metaverse interaction, including advances in augmented-reality theorization and extensions of existing theories about augmented metaverse contexts.
Guest Editors: David Beyea, Vivian Hsueh Hua Chen, Rabindra Ratan, Maxwell Foxman, Alex P. Leith, Brian Klebig.
Exploring Meaningful Extended Reality (XR) Experiences: Psychological, Educational, and Data-Driven Perspectives
Our second special issue extends the theoretical conversation from Meaningful XR into psychological, educational, and data-driven perspectives on XR experience. The call for papers has closed; invited full papers are in peer review as of early 2026.
The Meaningful XR conference is the engine for both special issues. Selected papers from each conference cycle receive invitations to develop their work for journal publication, building a sustained community of researchers focused on virtual meetings, XR-mediated interaction, and the future of collaborative technology.
